Curriculum

Bayside P-12 College offers a well-rounded and inclusive curriculum, grounded in the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model. Students in the early and middle years follow a broad curriculum across eight learning areas, while senior students have access to a range of VCE, VM, and VET units.

Our students are encouraged to have voice and agency in their learning, with opportunities to shape their educational experience in line with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 and VCAA-accredited studies. The college also offers a variety of co-curricular activities across its campuses, including:

SC1 Demonstrated expert knowledge of the relevant curriculum. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage the implementation of school priorities, and the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills across the curriculum.

Role


Bayside P-12 College is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. As a member of our Leadership group, you recognise and action the importance of, and a responsibility for, ensuring our school is a safe, supportive and enriching environment which respects and fosters the dignity and self-esteem of children and young people, and enables them to thrive in their learning and development. Actions include supporting the implementation and monitoring of the Code of Conduct, and arrangements to provide inclusive, safe and orderly schools and other learning environments. Being part of the leadership group at Bayside P-12 College you will also provide information and support to enable the Code of Conduct to operate effectively within your team and the College.

* Shape and support the future direction of curriculum and engagement programs (including Voyager/STEM/VM/New Metrics), planning and review in line with the College¿s vision or learning
* Provide support and advice to the Learning Teams concerning the implementation of whole school competency with a focus on student agency underpinned by VTLM 2.0 and the Strategic Plan.
* Work with the Business Manager to allocate funds t and coordinate programs associated with monitoring and evaluating the achievement of set targets and the disbursement of funds to related budget areas.
* Be a member of their base Campus Management team, the College Working Party, and assist in the organisation and leadership of Campus and College events, and support Campus processes.
* Lead and coordinate a whole school approach competency-based learning assessment and reporting
* Work with the Principals to plan and deliver whole school professional learning.
* Collect and interpret and present school data and establish directions for improvement.
* Be a proactive member of the College Learning Specialist / Leading Teacher team.
* Carry out other duties as required by the College Principal


Responsibilities


Preamble:

The Leading Teacher at Bayside P-12 College is an outstanding educational leader within a classroom and a leading member of the leadership and management teams within the curriculum and wellbeing programs. This professional is forward looking and visionary with exceptional skills in leading and managing the details of this position like decision-making, conflict resolution, mentoring and inspiring the team of teachers toward common teaching goals with knowledge and performance. The Leading Teacher is expected to lead and manage a significant function within the school and the College¿s Strategic Plan within the culture of the College; its community and the complexities of the multi-Campus P-12 structure.

The Leading Teacher at Bayside P-12 College will work with the principal to actively promote the safety and wellbeing of all students, and all school staff. This person is committed to protecting students from abuse or harm in the school environment, in accordance with their legal obligations including child safe standards according to the Child Safety Code of Conduct consistent with the Department¿s policy available at:

Key Responsibilities:

Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. This professional leads with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school¿s education program. The key responsibilities include:

* Leadership:

Working with key stakeholders in middle and senior leadership to develop a common strategy within the framework of the college structures, including leading and managing the implementation of whole-school improvement initiatives related to the college strategic plan and priorities. Leading Teachers develop frameworks for the principal by contributing to the preparation and development of proposals for committees and college council consideration.

* Collaborating with Teachers:

Working one-on-one or in small groups with teachers and Learning Specialists to identify areas to improve teaching practices.

* Providing Feedback:

Providing constructive feedback on lesson planning, instructional strategies, classroom management and assessment techniques related to student welfare and discipline.

* Modelling Best Practices:

Demonstrating effective teaching strategies through demonstration lessons in the classroom or to groups of staff.

* Facilitating Professional Development:

Leading workshops, training sessions, and other professional learning opportunities for teachers including managing staff performance and development within the College¿s Strategic Plan.

* Supporting Curriculum Implementation:

Leading and managing the implementation of whole-school improvement strategies related to curriculum planning and provision incorporating the use of data to inform instruction, understanding and implementation of the curriculum.

* Promoting Reflective Practice:

Encouraging teachers to reflect on their own practice and identify areas for growth and support not only in student learning but in general discipline matters as classroom teachers within the college¿s procedural structures.

* Evaluating Impact on Teaching and Student Outcomes:

Leading and managing the development of the school¿s assessment and reporting policies and practices

* Fostering a Culture of Collaboration:

Developing a positive and supportive environment where teachers feel comfortable sharing ideas and collaborating with each other.

* Accessing Current and Future Trends:

Keeping up to date with the latest research and best practices in education by supporting the changing trends in the curriculum of key learning areas and in student engagement and wellbeing.

* Advocating for Students:

Promoting the College approach to teaching and learning in the classroom by leading and managing the resources necessary for students to thrive, contribute and respond positively to the challenges and opportunities of life.


Who May Apply


Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

VIT LANTITE


To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
