Senior Engineer – Transport & Traffic

Public Sector People are partnering with Mackay Regional Council to appoint a Senior Engineer – Transport & Traffic, a key technical role responsible for the planning, analysis and delivery of transport infrastructure initiatives across the Mackay region.
This position sits within Council's Infrastructure Planning program and plays a critical role in improving the safety, efficiency and long‐term performance of the region's transport network while supporting Mackay's continued growth and economic development.
The Role
Working under limited direction and reporting to the Coordinator Transport & Traffic, this role will provide expert engineering advice and lead the planning, design and delivery of transport and traffic infrastructure initiatives across the region.
The position contributes to strategic transport planning, road safety improvements and infrastructure investment decisions while ensuring compliance with engineering standards and legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities Include
* Leading the planning, design and delivery of transport and traffic infrastructure projects
* Undertaking traffic modelling, network analysis and intersection assessments
* Preparing technical reports, business cases and concept designs for capital works programs
* Providing specialist engineering advice to internal teams, consultants and contractors
* Managing external consultants and contractors delivering transport studies and projects
* Supporting integrated transport planning, active transport initiatives and road safety programs
* Engaging with stakeholders including state agencies, community groups and internal departments
* Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, Australian Standards and engineering guidelines
This role plays an important part in shaping Mackay's transport future and delivering infrastructure outcomes that support both community safety and regional growth.
About You
You are an experienced transport or traffic engineer who enjoys applying technical expertise to real‐world infrastructure challenges and delivering solutions that benefit the community.
You Will Bring
* Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
* Significant experience in traffic and transport engineering
* Strong knowledge of transport infrastructure planning and asset management
* Experience using traffic modelling and analysis tools such as SIDRA, GIS or AutoCAD
* Proven ability to prepare technical reports, business cases and engineering advice
* Experience managing infrastructure projects, consultants and technical stakeholders
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capability
Local government experience and familiarity with Austroads, TMR standards and road safety frameworks will be highly regarded.
