Community Engagement & Support Navigator – Epilepsy

Make a real difference in the lives of people and families impacted by epilepsy.

Location: Townsville | 0.8FTE – contract until Feb 27 | SCHADS Award Level 4

Are you passionate about empowering young people, improving mental health outcomes, and supporting individuals living with epilepsy to live well? Do you thrive in a diverse and dynamic role that blends project work, psychosocial support, and community education?

This full-time contract role sits within our dedicated Living Well Team (LWT) and blends two focus areas:

1. Leading youth-focused, co-designed activities that enhance mental wellbeing and service access

2. Providing high-quality, person-centred support to people impacted by epilepsy; including delivering education sessions to people with lived experience and to community services

Join Epilepsy Queensland as a Community Engagement & Support Navigator -Epilepsy and play a key role in delivering high-impact and innovative early intervention supports for people living with epilepsy.

The Details

* 0.8FTE position until 28th Feb 2027, SCHADS Award Level 4
* Available for immediate start
* Flexibility required for some evening/weekend work and regional travel; occasional travel to Brisbane for induction/training.
* Work from home arrangement - based in Townsville

A day in the life…

Community Engagement Work

* Engaging youth living with epilepsy, who have a comorbidity/higher risk of mental illness, to co-design and co-develop age-appropriate, early intervention and prevention resources aligned to enhanced mental health and wellbeing
* Designing, developing, facilitating and evaluating best-practice engagement activities to enhance safety, access, outcomes and impacts, including peer support activities
* Building an 'Epilepsy Smart' Network, through establishing a local collaborative network of community partners who are equipped to respond to diverse and complex needs of cohort, including through facilitating epilepsy education sessions and information
* Establish and facilitate a Lived Experience Reference Group, with diverse stakeholder membership, to inform, guide, lead and evaluate project initiatives
* Participate in the planning and delivery of client services (or team) community events and activities in Townsville and surrounding areas.

Epilepsy Navigator Responsibilities

* Providing person-centred information, referral, and psycho-social support services to our customers to enable them to self-manage their condition – with a focus on health and wellbeing
* Deliver epilepsy education for individuals and families, and deliver training to health, disability, and education organisations
* Responding to incoming calls, e-mails, online enquiries, and requests, ensuring customer enquiries are responded to in line with EQ's best practice model and timeframes, and using integrated IT solutions effectively
* Liaising with service providers in the health, disability, and education sectors to identify opportunities to deliver EQ services that can improve health, support, and community connections for our customers
* Development of Epilepsy Management Plans to a high standard
* Supporting our customers to navigate the NDIS and the provision of our services under the Scheme

What you will bring

* A relevant tertiary qualification and experience working in human services (with preference for work experience relating to youth) with a strong co-design practice framework
* High-level skills and experience in delivering training and facilitating group-based health promotion education to diverse stakeholders – both in person and virtually
* High-level communication, networking and interpersonal skills with an ability to develop and manage stakeholder relationships
* Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience to apply a capacity-building approach to support people with complex needs to improve their quality of life
* High-level project, organisational and time management skills, including the ability to manage a workload with competing priorities
* Working knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of epilepsy
* Flexibility and availability to undertake work out of hours as required, including occasional travel and rostered training
* Confident with technology use and an intermediate user of Microsoft Office and CRM systems (e.g. Dynamics)
* Demonstrated high-level written skills that can be adapted to a range of audiences
* Eligibility for NDIS Worker Screening clearance and criminal history checks
* Current driver's licence
