We are seeking a highly skilled and qualified Design Engineer to ensure the technical integrity of all product and equipment designs. In this critical role, your primary focus will be on leading the design process from concept to delivery, ensuring technical documentation aligns with client requirements, budget, and Australian industry standards. You will also play a key role in managing the efficiency of the design and drafting resources and continuously improving engineering systems. Who will you be working with?
You will report directly to the Engineering Manager and will be a vital member of the engineering team. A key part of your role will involve providing effective leadership and technical direction to the Design Drafters, monitoring their work quality and productivity. You will also liaise extensively with management, sales, operations, external clients, and suppliers, acting as the technical authority for all design decisions.

What will you be doing?
You will be responsible for the end-to-end design and engineering process. Key duties include:

- Engineering Design & Validation: Reviewing job files, performing essential engineering calculations, and ensuring all designs meet best manufacturing practices, budgets, and industry/client specifications.
- Compliance and Certification: Certifying drawings and technical documents to ensure compliance with relevant standards and specifications.
- Project Expediting: Liaising with clients to gain drawing approvals and expediting design deliverables to purchasing and the workshop to maintain critical production schedules.
- Team Leadership: Assisting with the training, development, and monitoring of Design Drafters, fostering a culture of accuracy and continuous improvement.
- Safety in Design: Ensuring safety and efficiency are paramount in all design decisions, carrying out hazard identification, risk assessment, and control.
- Technical Communication: Clearly communicating complex technical details with internal teams, suppliers, and clients, including site visits for surveys and problem-solving.

What do you need?
To thrive in this Design Engineer role, you must possess the following:

- Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering qualification is essential.
- RPEQ / Chartered Status (or working towards it) is strongly preferred.
- Proven, solid experience in engineering design calculation and applying technical principles to real-world manufacturing problems.
- Expert CAD modelling and drawing skills are essential.
- Experience with FEA modelling and results interpretation.
- Exceptional innovative and creative design skills with strong problem-solving ability.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage, motivate, and influence direct reports and other stakeholders.
- Solid planning, organisational, and delegation skills with a strong focus on meeting quality deadlines.
