About the Gathering Place
The Gathering Place (TGP) is a community-led facility that provides a welcoming and culturally safe environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Located in Morwell, it serves as a central hub for social, cultural, artistic, and practical engagement programs. TGP offers a space for community members to come together, share stories, reconnect, seek support, and participate in healing and learning activities.
It is a place where mob can sit, have a cuppa, yarn, and feel safe. Through the involvement of community volunteers, TGP fosters the sharing of cultural knowledge, skills, and lived experiences, strengthening connections and supporting individuals in making positive life choices.
This role plays a key part in ensuring culturally safe and responsive support whilst championing The Gathering Place's vision, mission, and strategic objectives by embedding Aboriginal ways of knowing, being, and doing into all aspects of community-based programs and learning initiatives.
To strengthen the cultural integrity and community relevance of the Gathering Place by actively embedding and aligning its operations, programs, and strategic direction with the values, guidance, and leadership of local Aboriginal organisations, Elders, and community members. This role will foster respectful relationships, uphold cultural protocols, and ensure that the Gathering Place remains a trusted, inclusive, and empowering space for Aboriginal people.
Provide expert cultural leadership to support the development of culturally safe, therapeutic, and strengths-based practices across The Gathering Place, in partnership with Aboriginal organisations, Elders, and community members.
Guide and influence culturally responsive practice through mentoring, consultation, and reflective learning, ensuring programs and activities uphold the highest standards of cultural integrity and community relevance.
Ensure that all practice and service delivery approaches are aligned with Berry Street policies, cultural protocols, and relevant state and federal government requirements, with a strong emphasis on cultural safety and continuous improvement.

A minimum Diploma qualification in Community Services or relevant field is required for this role.
