Job Title: Environmental Laboratory Manager

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Environmental Laboratory Manager to oversee the operations of our specialized environmental laboratory supporting clients across the oil & gas, manufacturing, and consulting sectors. The ideal candidate will oversee a multidisciplinary team, ensure compliance with industry regulations, drive operational excellence, and maintain analytical integrity in delivering high-quality environmental data and insights.
Responsibilities
* Oversee daily operations of the environmental laboratory, ensuring timely and accurate sample analysis and result delivery to client.
* Lead and manage all laboratory activities related to environmental testing (e.g., effluent, groundwater, produced water, air, soil, oil & gas).
* Ensure strict adherence to ISO/IEC 17025 standards and relevant regulatory frameworks (NUPRC, NESREA, FMEnv, EPA, etc.).
* Manage QA/QC protocols and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality laboratory performance and credibility.
* Collaborate with Clients and Project Managers to define & support project-specific testing requirements.
* Lead, train, mentor and motivate laboratory staff, manage team performance, ensuring safety compliance and professional development.
* Interpret and validate analytical results for reporting to clients and regulatory bodies.
* Manage laboratory budgets, procurement, audits, maintenance schedules and vendor relationships.
* Represent the lab during regulatory audits, client inspections/meetings, and accreditation assessments.
* Drive innovation through the introduction of new technologies and testing methods.
* Monitor lab safety procedures and enforce health and environmental safety regulations.
* Prepare technical reports and present findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
* Minimum of 2nd Class upper Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Environmental Science, Analytical Chemistry, or related discipline (Master's/PhD added advantage).
* 10–15 years of progressive experience in environmental laboratory management/operations and leadership role.
* Demonstrable experience supporting oil & gas operations, industrial/manufacturing compliance, or environmental consulting projects.
* Advanced knowledge of environmental testing methods (APHA, ASTM, EPA protocols).
* In-depth familiarity with laboratory management systems, LIMS, and data validation processes.
* Strong understanding of national and international HSE and environmental regulations.
* Membership with a relevant professional body (e.g., NES, NCS, IPAN, ICCON).
* ISO 9001, ISO 14001/HSE-MS Training and ISO 17025 Certifications.
* Experience working directly with clients in exploration & production (E&P), refineries, manufacturing firms, or environmental consulting.
* Familiarity with ESG metrics and sustainability reporting.
* IPAN Membership (added advantage).
