About the Opportunity

The primary purpose of the Senior Legal Officer is to provide legal policy advice on matters related to the National Redress Scheme to ensure the South Australian government meets its obligations under the Intergovernmental Agreement on the National Redress Scheme and appropriately responds to formal and informal requests from the Commonwealth Operator of the National Redress Scheme. The Senior Legal Officer will be required to provide legal policy analysis, research and advice and appropriately represent the interests of the South Australian government in a variety of forums. Duties of the Senior Legal Officer include the settling of responses to Requests for Information (RFI) drafted by Paralegal Officers and Legal Officers within the SRRU and providing in-house legal policy advice. The Senior Legal Officer is also responsible for leading various legal policy projects. The Senior Legal Officer will provide support to the Manager of the SRRU, as well as provide supervision of junior staff and direct reports, as appropriate.


About the Business

The State Redress Response Unit (SRRU) coordinates the participation of the South Australian Government in the National Redress Scheme for Institutional Child Sexual Abuse (the National Redress Scheme).

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD.

Some out of hours work may be required. Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required. The South Australian public sector promotes diversity and flexible ways of working, including part-time. Applicants are encouraged to discuss the flexible working arrangements for this role.


Responsibilities

* Provide legal policy analysis, research and advice on matters related to the National Redress Scheme.
* Lead various legal policy projects and represent the interests of the SA government in diverse forums.
* Settlement of responses to RFIs drafted by Paralegal Officers and Legal Officers within the SRRU.
* Provide supervision and support to the Manager of the SRRU and to junior staff and direct reports as appropriate.
