**How will I help?**
The Database Practice team is a specialist team of database SMEs covering our strategic database products. We are responsible for defining our service strategy, developing service pattern designs, leading to robust, flexible, and quality infrastructure services and solutions. This includes product capabilities on-premises and in the private/public cloud.
Within this team you would play a critical role in designing and developing patterns and ensuring we continue to delivery highly available services meeting our customer requirements.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Work with engineering and architecture departments to define our on-premises and cloud capabilities.
- Developing and maintaining product roadmaps.
- Examining opportunities to introduce new emerging database technologies to meet our customer requirements.
- Design and implement highly available database platforms and databases exceeding our customer requirements.
- Ensuring new service or pattern design adhere to Westpac's design blueprints, automation CI/CD practices and security standards.
- Define and promote industry best practices in respect to database operational processes.
- Develop in Westpac's agile methodology and use of tools to support DevOps delivery style.
- Ability to consult on projects as a SME and provide advisory services to Project and Operational Teams.
- Mentoring Project and Operational Teams in Industry Best Practices.

**What do I need?**
To be successful in this role you will have 10+ years of industry experience, which includes:
- Designing enterprise SQL Server capabilities comprising database, integration, reporting and analytics across SQL Server 2012 - SQL Server 2019.
- Database physical and logical design.
- Storage design for database systems, EMC SAN preferred.
- Network design, encompassing firewalls and software defined networks (NSX/NSX-T).
- High availability technologies, such as clustering, AlwaysOn and load balancing.
- Database security encompassing encryption using EKM systems, RBAC, TLS.
- Active Directory encompassing group policies, preferences, groups, users, OU structures.
- PowerShell
- Performance and tuning.
- Public cloud technologies, Azure and AWS preferred.
- DevOps tooling supporting CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, Chef, Jenkins, Artifactory and Bitbucket preferred.
- Working in large enterprise environment.
- Virtualisation of database systems using VMware.
- Windows operating system and scripting.
