OverviewSolicitor, Litigation and Dispute ResolutionHybrid working from home/office environmentVPS 3 / VPS 4 $79,122 - $111,142 plus superannuation per annum (depending on experience)About the VGSOThe Victorian Government Solicitor's Office (VGSO) serves the rule of law exclusively for the State.
The VGSO provides responsive legal services exclusively for the Victorian Government and public sector.

In all aspects of our operations, we aim to role model and live by our values: Responsiveness, Integrity, Insight, Collaboration and Excellence.About the branchThe Litigation and Dispute Resolution (LDR) Branch is a team of approximately 60 legal practitioners and an additional team of 35 legal support staff (including paralegals) that provide specialist legal services to a large number of government clients and departments.
The Branch handles a diverse range of litigation and advisory work, including matters that are topical and involve public interest issues such as personal injury claims, police civil claims, coronial inquests, vexatious litigant applications, tortious claims, defamation, post-sentence supervision and detention orders, judicial review (including matters involving prisoners) and matters involving the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act.About the roleExciting opportunities have become available for lawyers seeking to pursue or continue their career in public law, by joining the VGSO as a Solicitor in the LDR Branch.
You will play a pivotal role in supporting and managing complex and sensitive litigation across a diverse range of cases.ResponsibilitiesHandling personal injury litigation (negligence and breach of statutory duty)Addressing historical institutional abuse claims involving former minors and young persons in state careManaging contempt of court and vexatious litigant claimsWorking on matters under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997Conducting judicial reviews, asset confiscation, coronial inquests, public liability cases, and subpoenasAdditionally, you will have the opportunity to support other streams of work within the branch, ensuring a varied and enriching experience.Skills and experienceIdeal candidate will have either just begun their post-admission journey or a seasoned Solicitor looking for a change in career.Ability to review, manage, and conduct complex and sensitive proceedings in state courts and tribunals, with a sound knowledge of relevant court practices and civil procedureDemonstrated ability to work on multiple complex files simultaneouslyExperience handling general personal injury matters and/or acting for insurers in civil litigation claims is highly regardedProven ability to provide oral and written advice on complex and sensitive matters, and carry out thorough legal research and analysisWhy Join Us?
