About National Trust Queensland & The Currumbin Wildlife Hospital
Since its creation in 1989, Currumbin Wildlife Hospital has grown to be one of the busiest wildlife hospitals in the world, now treating over 14,000 animals annually. The hospital also provides veterinary care to the Sanctuary's animal collection and conducts leading research and conservation projects.
The hospital is located within Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary grounds, managed by the National Trust of Australia Queensland (NTAQ). NTAQ is a membership-based community organization and registered charity dedicated to conserving and promoting natural and cultural heritage for future generations.
To support the expanding operations of the Wildlife Hospital, we are seeking a Casual Wildlife Veterinary Nurse to join our esteemed team. The role involves assisting in diagnosing and treating admitted wildlife and ensuring the ongoing welfare of our Sanctuary species.
About The Role
The Wildlife Hospital environment is dynamic and fast-paced. The Veterinary Nurse will provide high standards of health monitoring, clinical nursing, and husbandry care. Reporting to the Hospital Operations Manager, you will assist Veterinarians during examinations and procedures, and undertake laboratory diagnostic tasks, including sample collection and storage.
As a confident animal handler, you will perform safe capture and restraint of native and exotic species. You will work collaboratively with team members and volunteers to promote animal welfare within the veterinary clinic.
As a member of NTAQ, you will represent our Mission and Values, and help communicate our organization's key messages.
About You
To succeed in this role, you should possess a Certificate III in Veterinary Nursing or an equivalent recognized qualification, with prior experience working with wildlife and exotic species. Key skills and attributes include:
* Strong understanding and practical skills in clinical nursing of zoo, exotic, and native wildlife
* An energised, diplomatic, personable individual with a genuine passion for wildlife
* A flexible, cooperative, and positive attitude
* Excellent communication skills, able to liaise effectively with staff, volunteers, and veterinary contacts
