About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer who enjoys providing accurate, reliable payroll support in a people-focused environment. With the recent rollout of a Humanforce payroll system, payroll processing is well supported by technology, allowing this role to focus on quality, administration, and employee support.
This role is ideal for someone who values attention to detail, patience, and accountability, and who takes pride in supporting employees and frontline leaders with clear and dependable payroll advice.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Management (Primary Focus):
* Deliver end-to-end payroll processing on a fortnightly basis using the Humanforce system, with a strong focus on review, validation, and accuracy
* Apply payroll expertise to review system outputs, identify exceptions, and resolve discrepancies prior to pay runs
* Manage payroll administration, including employee data updates, adjustments, variations, and documentation
* Conduct six-monthly and annual Annualised Salary Reconciliations
* Respond to payroll inquiries from employees and resolve discrepancies efficiently.
* Support payroll compliance activities, including superannuation, PAYG, payroll tax, and EOFY processes
* Administer workers' compensation insurance across multiple Australian states and territories, including policy administration and annual wage declarations
* Support ongoing payroll system optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives
* Support HR with payroll inputs across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, variations, promotions, transfers, and terminations.
* Support internal and external payroll audits and compliance reviews.
* Assist with payroll-related reporting and data requests to support HR and operational decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
* A minimum of 3 years' experience in a dedicated payroll role with demonstrated end-to-end payroll processing capability, preferably in a large retail environment.
* Strong working knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, Modern Awards, and Fair Work compliance.
* Proven ability to apply payroll judgement to review, validate, and verify system-generated payroll outcomes.
* Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet strict payroll deadlines.
* Clear, confident communication skills with the ability to explain complex payroll matters.
* Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including functions for data analysis and reconciliation.
* Proficiency in reading and writing Chinese is highly regarded.
