About the role This is a new and exciting opportunity for a fellow in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) to join our team. This role would suit an advanced trainee in PEM through RACP or ACEM pathways. It would also be suitable for ACEM TS3 / TS4 advanced trainees. The appointed fellow will work on the consultant roster with senior support available. There would be weekly non‑clinical time allocated for departmental education and administrative roles and the pursuit of individual educational activities such as: airway management, paediatric specialist clinic time or neonatal experience. There is significant opportunity for contribution to research with established links. This role has been created to allow adequate clinical exposure with support as a senior decision maker in Paediatric ED whilst also having time to enhance learning in the breadth of the consultant role.

PEM specialist cover 7 days/week onsite 0800‑2330 and on‑call

Key responsibilities
Perform unit duties as delegated by the Unit Head or Receiving Consultant in accordance with Western Health policies and procedures and relevant legislation
Ensure notification to the appropriate consultant of patients referred to the Department, and provision of initial assessment of referred patients
Ensure quality patient care via clinical assessment, admissions and development of management plans
Provide supervision for the clinical activities of the junior medical staff on the unit, according to the level of experience of the individual
Facilitate effective clinical handovers within the Paediatric ED and to external units and providers
Ensure own health and well‑being and seek assistance if impairment in physical or mental health is impacting on job performance
About you Essential requirements:
Medical practitioner registration with AHPRA
Ability to work as part of a team
Commitment to professional development
Trainee Level – required experience:
Paediatric ED experience as a registrar for at least 6 months
Advanced training in PEM (passed RACP exams or ACEM primary exam)
APLS course
6 months of neonatology (desirable)
PICU or ICU experience (desirable)
Retrieval experience (desirable)
