Senior Civil or Environmental Engineer - Landfill Design

In Melbourne, our waste team is growing and we’re looking for an Intermediate to Senior Civil or Environmental Engineer who enjoys being an all-rounder and wants to work across a wide range of landfill and resource recovery projects nationwide. This is a role for someone who likes variety: technical design, problem-solving, site input, client interaction and (if you’re keen) growing into more project management and work-winning exposure. The Role You’ll work on waste projects across Australia, from regional landfill expansions to cutting-edge waste and resource recovery facility design, including: Supporting and leading landfill design and construction projects (cell development, capping, gas/leachate systems, stormwater controls). Providing practical, buildable design input across concept, detailed design, and construction phases. Contributing to (and for more senior candidates, leading) proposal development and winning work. Working with auditors, regulators, and recognised technical experts to deliver robust, safe, regulation-ready outcomes. Participating in technical workshops, stakeholder briefings, and independent expert reviews. Mentoring junior engineers and helping lift design consistency and best practice across the team. Ideal background includes: Experience in landfill, civil, environmental, or related infrastructure projects (typically 5–15 years, depending on level). Degree-qualified in Civil or Environmental Engineering or similar CPEng (Engineers Australia) or actively working toward chartership. Sound technical capability in areas such as landfill design, environmental compliance, and relevant tools (e.g. Civil 3D, 12D, water balance modelling, gas modelling). A collaborative style and confidence engaging with clients, contractors, regulators, and technical specialists. Project management experience is welcome or the motivation to build capability in this space.
