Where You'll Be Working
Join the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) as part of the Youth Engagement Service (YES), where you’ll work with young people experiencing acute mental health distress. This is a 12-month temporary full-time position embedded within the Hunter Valley Mental Health Team, based in Maitland—a vibrant regional centre surrounded by picturesque wine country, bushland and easy access to Newcastle.
The YES initiative places CAMHS clinicians within adult mental health teams, offering assertive, flexible, and community-based support for young people up to the age of 24. You’ll be joining a skilled, compassionate, and responsive multidisciplinary team committed to delivering person-centred care and improving outcomes for young people and their families.
About The Role
In this impactful role, you will:
* Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed, and developmentally appropriate mental health assessment and treatment
* Deliver short-term, evidence-based interventions to young people in crisis
* Offer specialist advice and consultation to adult mental health colleagues
* Facilitate smooth transitions from CAMHS to adult mental health services
* Collaborate with multiple stakeholders—within health, government, and community-managed agencies—to ensure integrated and responsive care
About You
You are a senior mental health clinician who is:
* Emotionally intelligent and client-focused
* Passionate about working with young people in acute mental health distress
* Skilled in navigating complex systems and transitions
* A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal and collaborative abilities
* Committed to trauma-informed, culturally competent, and recovery-oriented practice
Requirements
* Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, or Nursing
* AHPRA registration or eligibility for membership with a relevant professional body
* Demonstrated experience supporting young people in acute mental health settings
* Willingness and ability to travel within the local region
* Commitment to regular supervision and ongoing professional development
