Overview
Design Lead - Water Treatment & Facilities based in Sydney, NSW. The role focuses on leading technical teams to develop and deliver design solutions for water treatment and facilities projects, including upgrades and renewals of reservoirs, pump stations and related water and wastewater assets. The position is part of Stantec's New South Wales Water Division and reports to project managers and technical leads to ensure on-budget, on-program delivery with high quality design outcomes.
This role is based in the client's Sydney Olympic Park office and supports the West Region Delivery Team for Sydney Water.
Responsibilities
* Lead the Project Technical Team to develop and deliver design solutions for construction on budget and aligned with the project program.
* Coordinate multi-disciplinary inputs from engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance to ensure an integrated design solution.
* Manage design delivery in accordance with the project scope and apply change management at the project level.
* Ensure technical outputs conform to project scope, safety standards and appropriate quality, confirmed by independent reviews.
* Manage scope changes through established systems and processes.
* Deliver designs to required quality standards using diverse teams and work within a matrix organisational structure.
* Exercise independent judgement and address complex issues, acting as an internal subject matter expert with advanced practical and theoretical knowledge.
* Collaborate with the client and key stakeholders during development of technical solutions and present outcomes during handovers and project closeout.
* Plan technical activities, confirm delivery methodology, coordinate technical resources, and track progress.
* Lead the preparation and production of technical deliverables, implement review processes, and address safety, innovation and sustainability in outputs; minimise re-work and manage scope creep and variations; capture and share knowledge.
* Provide regular monitoring and reporting on schedule, budget, quality, resources and scope, and propose corrective actions as needed.
* Coordinate quality reviews, schedules, status updates and modifications with Design Quality teams and discipline reviewers.
* Direct discipline reviewers on submittal details (location, schedule, cost codes, response periods).
* Coordinate with other program leads to estimate design budgets and develop delivery schedules compatible with estimating, procurement, construction and commissioning activities.
* Identify and mentor technical staff.
* Contribute to proposal and bid development to support business development, including preparing proposal material and client budgets.
* Complete work in line with Stantec Core Values and Project Quality Procedures, and adhere to Quality, Health, Safety and Environment Systems.
* Minimise risk by adhering to quality and safety programmes and using project management systems proactively.
* Perform other duties as reasonably required.
Qualifications
* Tertiary qualification in a relevant engineering field.
* Chartered Engineer or working towards.
* 8 years of experience in an engineering consultancy.
* Leadership abilities including managing subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams.
* Knowledge of water and wastewater assets and the delivery environment.
* Strong problem solving and negotiation skills to resolve disputes.
* Solid understanding of D&C or alternative delivery projects.
* Strong report writing with the ability to tell a compelling story.
* Proficiency with Project Management Tools, MS Project, Power BI.
* Previous experience working with Sydney Water is desirable.
