Position Information
Matraville Sports High School is a co-educational specialist sports high school located in Sydney's eastern suburbs. Matraville Sports High School is an official Olympic Pathways School with a long history of sporting success across a range of team and individual sports. The school has a growing enrolment number of over 500 students in 2026. This number includes an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander enrolment of 30%, 16% EAL/D students, three support classes catering for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and four for students with intellectual disabilities. Matraville Sports High School is an inclusive, culturally nourishing, and vibrant school where students and staff cooperate and collaborate to achieve the common goal of individual high performance in a caring and compassionate learning environment.
Specific Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, Approval to teach Mathematics Years 7 – 12 and approval or willingness to teach Mathematics Extension 1&2. Proven capacity to lead and inspire a mathematics faculty in implementing syllabuses, embedding high-quality teaching, assessment, and differentiation to engage all students from a variety of backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and all ability levels. Demonstrated capacity to collaborate collegially with staff, students, and parents to initiate and drive creative approaches and new ways of thinking that ensures excellence in education for all students.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
