Inclusive and Disability Teachers – Primary and Secondary

The ACT Education Directorate seeks passionate and qualified Inclusive and Disability teachers for primary and secondary roles across a range of local and specialist schools.

Whether you're a recent graduate or an experienced teacher, we want you to help us shape inclusive education in Canberra.

About the ACT Education Directorate:

We deliver public education for children and young people in the ACT. Our mission is to offer excellent, fair and equitable education. We want all students to feel safe, valued and supported to thrive.

We have 92 public schools across the ACT that offer high quality education to more than 50,000 students including early childhood and preschools, primary schools, high schools, colleges and specialist schools.

All students with disability and diverse learning needs are welcome to attend their local school, where they will be supported with reasonable adjustments.

ACT public schools have access to the Education Directorate's Allied Health Service, School Psychology Service and evidence-based professional learning.

As an inclusive and diversity teacher in an ACT public school, you will:

Develop and implement individualised education programs and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) tailored to students' unique learning needs and goals.

Provide explicit instruction and support to students with diverse abilities, ensuring an inclusive learning environment.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including therapists, support staff, and families, to optimise student outcomes.

Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting teaching strategies as necessary.

Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in disability and inclusion.

What we're looking for:

Qualifications and experience: A recognised tertiary teaching qualification, with a specialisation in disability education or equivalent and/or demonstrated experience supporting students with diverse learning needs, intellectual disabilities and learning difficulties.

Passion for care: Empathetic, patient and adaptable, driven by a genuine passion for empowering every student to thrive and succeed in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Commitment : An ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and the community, and a commitment to nurturing student wellbeing.

Eligibility requirements:

To apply, you must have:

A recognised four-year full-time tertiary teaching qualification.

ACT Teacher Quality Institute Teacher Registration (or eligibility to apply).

Valid ACT Working with Vulnerable People registration (or eligibility to apply).

Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid working visa

Your resume/CV detailing your experience and teaching qualifications.
