Financial Governance Manager

The Opportunity
BRG is supporting a Defence client seeking a Financial Governance Manager to operate within a complex acquisition and sustainment environment.
This role sits at the centre of financial decision‐making, providing governance, assurance and strategic financial advice across capability delivery programs. You will operate within an integrated workforce and with a high degree of independence, leveraging direct access to live financial systems and data to deliver timely, evidence‐based insights.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver financial governance across acquisition and sustainment programs
* Provide strategic financial advice to senior stakeholders, including funding profiles and affordability considerations
* Analyse live financial data to provide timely, evidence‐based insights and assurance
* Support development of budget strategies, submissions and financial inputs to Cabinet and executive processes
* Oversee financial reporting including monthly, quarterly and executive‐level outputs
* Develop and uplift financial governance frameworks, policies and controls
* Identify and remediate non‐compliance through practical and sustainable solutions
* Support parliamentary processes including Budget Estimates and Senate Estimates
* Lead stakeholder engagement across projects, Finance and enabling groups
* Contribute to improving financial discipline, risk awareness and organisational maturity
Candidate Profile
We are seeking candidates with strong experience across Defence or Commonwealth financial environments, who can operate confidently in complex, high‐assurance settings.
You will demonstrate:
* Experience in Defence or Commonwealth financial governance
* Strong understanding of financial legislation, compliance frameworks and Defence financial policy
* Background in acquisition and/or sustainment environments
* Experience supporting budget processes, estimates and executive reporting
* Ability to interpret financial data and provide clear, independent advice
* Strong stakeholder engagement and leadership capabilityExperience in financial assurance, controls and governance uplift
Desirable Experience
* Experience working with Defence Finance Group (DFG)
* Exposure to Cabinet submissions and investment approvals
* Understanding of the Capability Life Cycle and Defence delivery environments
