About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-driven Finance Officer to take ownership of day-to-day financial operations across accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, bookkeeping, inventory-related finance functions and profit and loss management.
Reporting to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for supplier payments, customer invoicing, inventory costing, payroll support and month‐end reconciliations and analysis.
This is not a back‐office‐only position; you will work closely with operations, warehouse and customer service to keep BPS's financial side running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage end-to-end Accounts Payable – invoice coding, payment runs, supplier queries and credit terms
* Coordinate Accounts Receivable activities, including customer invoicing, receipting, debt follow‐up and collections
* Verify supplier, freight and service provider invoices against POs, contracts and agreed pricing before payment
* Own month‐end processes, including stock inventory entry, valuations and delivering an accurate monthly P&L
* Perform bank reconciliations, account reconciliations and month‐end close processes
* Support payroll processing, timesheet reconciliation and leave tracking
* Manage stock import costing, stock valuation entries and supplier payment schedules related to inventory
* Maintain accurate financial records, general ledger coding and document control
* Ensure compliance with GST, BAS requirements and company financial procedures
* Liaise with internal stakeholders – operations, warehouse and customer service – to resolve finance-related queries
* Leverage AI tools and outsourced admin support for routine tasks so you can focus on higher‐value work
* Work alongside our outsourced CFO and tax accountant, providing them with clean, reliable numbers
* Contribute to process improvements and more efficient finance operations
* Support ad‐hoc finance projects and reporting as required
About You
We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, is reliable, and thrives when given responsibility across a broad range of finance tasks.
* 5+ years' experience in a finance, accounts or bookkeeping role with strong AP and AR exposure
* Solid understanding of Chart of Accounts, GST and BAS obligations
* Experience with payroll processing or payroll reconciliation
* Qualifications in accounting, finance or related field (a CPA or CA qualification would be highly regarded)
* Confidence to query charges and resolve discrepancies directly with suppliers
* Experience in distribution or retail (highly valued)
* Comfort with AI finance tools or a genuine interest in adopting them
* Proficiency with accounting/payroll software (Xero, MYOB or similar), MS Office and WMS systems
* The ability to work independently and manage your own workload
* Exposure to inventory costing, stock-related finance or import/supplier payments
* High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks
* Strong organisational and time‐management skills
* Clear communication skills and a team-focused attitude
* A proactive, adaptable approach – you see what needs doing and get on with it
* Experience in e‐commerce, retail or wholesale distribution is an advantage but not essential
