About the Role

Our recently established Canberra office, led by highly regarded employment lawyerJennifer Wyborn, reinforces our reputation as a trusted advisor to our Commonwealth Government clients.

With our ongoing growth, we are pleased to invite candidates to apply for a newly created position within our Workplace Relations & Safety group.

We welcome applications from candidates with 1-2 years of post-admission experience in Employment Law. We also encourage applications from those currently working in government who may not have direct Employment Law experience but are seeking a career change. Recent graduates looking to begin their legal careers are also invited to apply.

We offer a full-service employment law practice specialising in all aspects of workforce management - from employee engagements and contracts, industrial relations and workplace safety, to disputes, grievances and terminations.

Our employment lawyers offer more than just legal counsel; they develop targeted, cost-efficient solutions tailored to each client. By working in close partnership with clients, they formulate strategies to mitigate risks, deliver essential information, and reinforce safety and compliance efforts.

Responsibilities

- Preparing written advices regarding all employment law related issues and industrial relations matters
- Providing strategic advice regarding employment and industrial relations disputes
- Appearing at conferences before the relevant court or tribunal
- Researching case law and providing legal analysis
- Drafting court documents and settlement agreements
- Engaging barristers and investigators
- Instructing counsel and senior lawyers during court hearings, mediations and conferences
- Corresponding with opposing solicitors and self-represented applicants
- Liaising with witnesses and drafting statements and affidavits
- Where appropriate and necessary, delegating work and providing instructions to paralegals and administrative support
- Retaining and building client relationships and business

About You

- Hold a tertiary qualification in Law
- Demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to think laterally
- Excel at building and maintaining trusted relationships with stakeholders
- Show proficiency in drafting clear and well-structured legal documents
- Display strong organisational skills, including effective file management and billing
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Exhibit outstanding negotiation and influencing skills
- Adopt a proactive approach, challenging conventional thinking and offering practical solutions
- Demonstrate motivation for continuous learning and professional development
- Manage workload efficiently, prioritising tasks to meet tight deadlines
- Commit to risk identification and compliance with risk management procedures
- Apply sound judgment in problem-solving and escalate issues when necessary
