The Role

The Nurse Manager Grade 3 (NM3) - RCOS works in collaboration with the Senior Nurse Manager RCOS and the multidisciplinary team to provide leadership and management within the perioperative environment ensuring safe quality clinical services for patients of the Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney Children's Hospital and Royal Hospital for Women.
The NM3, in collaboration with the Senior Nurse Manager RCOS is responsible for ensuring the effective planning and coordination of all elective and emergency surgical procedures within the perioperative environment ensuring that patients undergo surgery in line with their clinical indication and meet key safety surgical targets.
In collaboration with the Senior Nurse Manager RCOS the NM3 contributes towards the effective management of the nursing and support staff within the RCOS including recruitment, transitioning and retention of staff, career development and succession planning, professional learning and development, and the safe and effective utilisation of staffing through appropriate skill mix, patient allocations and models of care.
The Nurse Manager has a professional reporting structure to the DON via Nursing Co-director Surgery and Perioperative Medicine and is an active member of the Nursing Governance Structure through engagement and participation on Nursing Councils.

Clinical supervision at the point of care is the role and responsibility of each Registered Nurse/Midwife and Enrolled Nurse within everyday clinical practice, in line with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council Decision Making Frameworks for Nurses and Midwives.

Where you'll be working
Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service is a Level 6 Tertiary Referral Hospital with an inpatient bed base of 370. Each year we care for more than 70,000 patients in our Emergency Department and have around 50,000 admissions to the inpatient units. POWH offers an outpatient service and rural outreach service and provides more than 900,000 occasions of non-admitted patient care each year, including innovative virtual models of care. We have transitioned the majority of inpatient units and wards to the Acute Services Building (ASB) including a state of the art Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit. POWH provides an exceptional staff experience and enhanced patient and family outcomes as a result of the provision of person-centred care.

Selection Criteria
* Registered Nurse who holds current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA).
* Recognised tertiary management qualifications or working towards same, and evidence of recent professional development to further enhance leadership and management competencies.
* Recent clinical and operational experience within a complex operating suite environment, including the ability to manage flow of emergency and elective cases.
* Demonstrated experience in the application of change management principles and achievement of measurable outcomes.
* Demonstrated effective verbal, written and negotiation skills with an aptitude to utilize relevant information technology platforms and ability to provide clear and concise plans and reports.
* Demonstrated ability to identify, evaluate and incorporate where appropriate emerging trends within the profession of nursing.
* Evidence of experience in financial management and ability to develop and lead financial strategies.
* Sound knowledge of current clinical practice, its delivery and models of care and the ability to motivate, inspire and lead staff to achieve service and professional goals.
