As a Building Surveyor, you will be responsible for supporting Directors, Managers, and Senior Building Regulations Consultants / Building Surveyors in the timely and effective assessment, inspection, and reporting of building or design proposals.
Key Responsibilities
Project Support
* Assist Directors, Managers, and Senior Building Surveyors in delivering services within agreed timeframes, budgets, and quality standards.
* Review, assess and prepare Construction Certificates, Complying Development Certificates and Occupation Certificates, Crown Certificates and the like across various stages, including identifying elements that do not meet compliance with the NCC / BCA.
* Conduct on-site inspections and prepare detailed reports, representing Group DLA during site visits and in client meetings.
Technical Functions
* Provide advice and interpretation of the Building Regulations.
* Support the application of Building Regulations and relevant standards during project design and development.
* Participate in negotiations with Building Regulatory Authorities and other authorities from time to time.
* Assess Development Approval conditions for compliance.
* Conduct fire safety surveys and audits of existing buildings for potential upgrades or changes of use.
* Identify where performance-based (Alternate Solution) approaches may be appropriate.
* Prepare assistance in assessing and preparing Construction Certificates, Complying Development Certificates and Occupation Certificates, Crown Certificates and the like for building design and completion / occupation compliance.
* Assist in undertaking inspections of existing and under construction developments as part of the role as Building Surveyor.
* Identify out-of-scope works under the BCA, including accessibility issues, and raise them with your manager.
Study & Training
* Completed a relevant degree or postgraduate qualification.
* Satisfactorily meet the requirements of any approved training courses.
* Become familiar with Group DLA's internal policies and procedures.
* Actively participate in industry-recognised Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs.
* Develop a sound understanding of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and associated legislation under the guidance of senior staff.
* Build knowledge of Fire Safety Engineering and the Alternate Solutions framework.
Team Support
* Provide technical assistance by contributing to part-assessments as directed by senior team members.
* Deliver assessment documentation within designated timeframes.
Candidate Requirements
* Demonstrated honesty, integrity, commitment, and a strong sense of responsibility.
* Current Class C Driver's Licence.
* Bachelor's Degree, post Graduate studies or TAFE qualifications in construction management, Architecture, Building Surveying, or a related field.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
* A strong desire for continuous learning and improvement.
* Possession of, or willingness to obtain, a CPCCOHS1001A (White Card – Work Safely in the Construction Industry).
* Enrolment or eligibility for enrolment in a relevant postgraduate qualification, such as a Graduate Diploma of Building Surveying.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
* Familiarity with the construction industry.
Other Requirements
* Flexibility to work outside standard hours when required, including:
* Attending after-hours meetings.
* Occasional interstate travel.
