Special Needs Education Assistant (Early Years)
Lance Holt School is seeking a warm, skilled, and reflective Special Needs Education Assistant (Early Years) to join our vibrant, community‐based independent school. Our early years program is deeply grounded in relationships, child‐led learning, and supporting each child to feel safe, seen, and valued.
We are looking for someone with strong experience in neurodiversity, inclusion, and trauma‐informed practice, who can work collaboratively with teachers to create environments where all children can thrive.
About the Role
* The Early Years SNEA will work closely with the classroom teacher to support individual children and small groups.
* Providing responsive, attuned support to children with diverse developmental, sensory, social‐emotional, and learning needs
* Using a trauma‐informed lens to promote regulation, connection, and safety
* Adapting learning experiences to ensure all children can participate meaningfully
* Observing, documenting, and responding to children's needs
* Collaborating with educators, families, and external professionals
* Contributing to a calm, nurturing, inclusive early childhood environment
* Role‐modelling positive communication and relational practices
About You
You are someone who brings curiosity, empathy, and deep respect for children. You understand that behaviour is communication and you respond with patience, consistency, and emotional presence.
* Experience working with neurodiverse children (e.g., autism, ADHD, PDA, language delays, sensory differences)
* Strong grounding in inclusion, differentiated supports, and strengths‐based approaches
* Ability to remain calm, flexible, and solution‐focused in dynamic early childhood environments
* Excellent collaboration and communication skills
* A commitment to reflective practice and continuous learning
* Relevant qualifications for Education Assistants in WA
* Current Working With Children Check and required clearances
* Experience in democratic, progressive, or community‐based schooling
* Familiarity with play‐based and inquiry learning frameworks
* Understanding of attachment theory and co‐regulation
