About the Team

Social justice is core business for UTS, with the Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion (CSJI) committed to providing strong leadership in equity and diversity in the higher education sector and ensuring an inclusive work and study environment for our staff and students.

The CSJI tracks performance against UTS's social justice goals through the UTS Social Impact Framework (SIF), a first of its kind for the Australian university sector. It works to channel the resources of UTS to remove barriers to education, empower communities, increase diversity and inclusion, and advocate for social justice. The CSJI develops, updates, and promotes the SIF, supporting UTS to enact transparent and evidence-based decision making in the social justice space.

About the Role

The Prevention Practitioner leads discrete, targeted gender‐based violence (GBV) prevention and capability‐building initiatives across UTS and contributes to the design, delivery and continuous improvement of GBV education programs for staff and students. The role supports the development & delivery of a UTS GBV Prevention Strategy and assists the University to meet its obligations under the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to GBV (2025).

Alongside organisation‐wide approaches the role has a strong focus on high‐need faculties and priority contexts, including student accommodation, disciplines with elevated risk factors, and settings requiring bespoke interventions. The role sits within the Safe and Respectful Communities (SARC) Prevention Team, working closely with the Senior Education and Training Manager, collaborating broadly across the university to design, implement and evaluate prevention approaches.

Key responsibilities include:

* Developing and delivering primary prevention and early intervention initiatives.
* Engaging staff, students and stakeholders to co‐design and co‐develop GBV prevention programs, gather insights and ensure programs reflect diverse needs and contexts.
* Supporting delivery of a whole‐of‐organisation GBV prevention strategy and targeted faculty‐based initiatives from planning to evaluation.
* Leading project management activities such as planning, timelines, coordination and identifying emerging GBV risks to inform prevention approaches.
* Designing and delivering trauma‐informed GBV prevention training and education for staff and students, with clear guidance on reporting pathways and supports.
* Supporting policy implementation, governance and reporting through evaluation insights and alignment with national GBV prevention standards.

Applicants should demonstrate the following key selection criteria:

* Experience delivering and project coordinating gender‐based violence primary prevention and early intervention programmes, including extensive content knowledge and ability to address backlash and trauma‐responsive practices.
* Experience in community engagement approaches, including co‐developing and co‐delivering projects with diverse stakeholders such as equity groups and those with lived experience.
* Experience collecting, interpreting or using evaluation data to inform continuous improvement of programmes and practices.
* Why you are a great fit for the Safe & Respectful Communities Team at UTS.

Base Salary Range: $109,014 – $120,596 pa (HEW 7)

This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

UTS staff also benefit from a wide range of employee benefits, including flexible work practices, generous parental leave, and salary packaging opportunities.

This position is full‐time and the appointment will be made on a fixed‐term basis for 2 years.

Applicants must have current and valid work rights in Australia.

In support of this, and in line with our statutory obligations under the National Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender‐Based Violence 2026, all prospective employees must declare any past investigations relating to gender‐based violence. Employment at UTS is contingent upon completion of this declaration, and, where necessary, assessment of any identified risk factors.
