Job Details:
We are seeking a Build Automation Technical Specialist (Advanced Practitioner) to join a high-assurance Defence environment supporting the design, build and automation of complex ICT systems.
This is a hands-on technical role within a DevSecOps team responsible for building and maintaining secure system environments that underpin large-scale systems integration, testing and validation activities.
You will work as part of a small, specialist team focused on automation, infrastructure-as-code, and system orchestration, contributing directly to the development of tooling that streamlines the build, configuration and deployment of deployable ICT nodes.
The role operates in a secure, mission-critical environment and requires strong technical autonomy, disciplined engineering practices, and the ability to engage effectively with Defence technical stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop build automation tools to support system configuration and deployment.
* Implement scripting, automation and orchestration solutions across secure environments.
* Maintain and enhance DevSecOps toolchains and supporting infrastructure.
* Contribute to disaster recovery solutions using VMware technologies.
* Develop and maintain technical documentation for automation tools and system components.
* Support configuration management and version-controlled infrastructure deployments.
* Provide SME input into technical risk management, system upgrades and capability expansion.
* Engage with Defence technical stakeholders and contribute to integration planning.
Essential Criteria
You must demonstrate experience in:
* PowerShell, Ansible and associated scripting technologies
* DevSecOps toolsets and methodologies
* GitLab
* Container workloads / Kubernetes
* Microsoft and Linux operating systems in enterprise environments
* VMware suite of datacentre products
* Version-controlled infrastructure deployments
* Automation of patching, updates and compliance checks
* Working primarily onsite in Canberra
Desirable Criteria
Highly desirable:
* 10+ years' experience in secure ICT systems within Defence environments
Desirable:
* Experience with defence systems such as JP AUS MPE, EDLAN or deployed networks
* Vulnerability scanning, secrets management, identity and access control
* Familiarity with NIST, ISO 27001, ASD Essential Eight
* Experience working in air-gapped / internet-disconnected environments
* Cloud or hybrid cloud experience
Additional Requirements
* Must be able to satisfy ITAR compliance requirements
* Willingness to undertake interstate and potential international travel
* Three-month probation period applies
* Must work within secure Defence facilities and comply with Defence security policies
