About the Role
We are seeking a qualified School Social Worker to support students and families through a holistic, preventative wellbeing framework grounded in Islamic values, cultural competency, and contemporary social work practice.
This role is central to strengthening student wellbeing, family engagement, and positive school culture. It prioritises early intervention, prevention, and partnership with families, rather than reactive case management alone.
Key Responsibilities
Student & Family Wellbeing
* Assess student and family wellbeing needs and develop appropriate support plans
* Provide individual and group counselling to students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioural challenges
* Conduct home visits where appropriate to strengthen school–family engagement
* Support families to access community, health, and government services
* Apply an Islamic explanatory framework in supporting students and families, recognising faith, spirituality, and moral development as integral to wellbeing
* Demonstrate high levels of cultural and religious competency, particularly when working with Muslim families from diverse backgrounds
* Promote faith-informed, culturally responsive practices that uphold dignity, trust, and community values
Prevention, Positive Education & Workshops
* Design and deliver preventative wellbeing workshops for students, parents, and staff
* Support the implementation of Positive Education and Positive Psychology initiatives aligned with Islamic values such as ṣabr (resilience), shukr (gratitude), niyyah (purpose), and akhlaq (character)
* Contribute to whole-school wellbeing programs that build emotional literacy, self-regulation, and healthy relationships
Advocacy, Policy & Collaboration
* Advocate for student wellbeing and family needs within the school and with external agencies
* Provide crisis intervention and support in matters relating to child protection and significant welfare concerns
* Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary school team
* Contribute to the development, review, and evaluation of wellbeing policies and procedures
About You
You are a grounded, values-driven professional who understands that faith, family, and community are essential to effective social work in schools. You are confident working preventatively and relationally, not only in crisis.
Essential Requirements:
* Recognised qualification in Social Work
* Counselling registration and AHPRA Registration
* Eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
* Experience working with children, young people, and families
* Strong counselling, facilitation, and case management skills
* Demonstrated cultural competency and ability to work respectfully within an Islamic school context
* Sound understanding of child protection and mandatory reporting obligations
* Current Working With Children Check (or ability to obtain)
Highly Desirable:
* Experience in an Islamic or faith-based educational setting
* Experience delivering workshops or group-based wellbeing programs
* Ability to integrate Islamic principles with contemporary wellbeing frameworks
