ABOUT THE ROLE
The objective of this role is to support the Legal Services of the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre - the Wide Bay Burnett Community Legal Service - to deliver free legal advice, assistance, casework, referrals and community legal education.With the office situated in Hervey Bay, the WBBCLS is a regional program covering the Fraser Coast, Bundaberg, North Burnett and Gympie local government areas.
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, you will need:
Essential:
Admitted or eligible to be admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and admitted or eligible for admission as a Solicitor of the High Court of Australia.
Demonstrated ability to provide high quality legal services to people experiencing disadvantage.
Demonstrated ability to manage and triage a caseload effectively and with minimal supervision in the context of a high-volume practice.
A strong commitment to social justice principles.
Demonstrated high level communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to deliver community legal education.
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
Demonstrated ability in the use of current computer technology.
Current C class driver's licence or the ability to gain a driver's licence within an agreed timeframe.
Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or ability to obtain.
Desirable:
Experience working in a community environment either as a paid worker or a volunteer.
Experience in civil and generalist legal practice across a broad range of practice areas.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Admission or eligible for admission as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and admission or eligible for admission as a Solicitor of the High Court of Australia.
Demonstrated ability to provide high quality advocacy, legal advice and casework services to people experiencing disadvantage on a wide range of issues including civil and family law matters.
Experience in drafting court and tribunal documents and a demonstrated ability to perform client and casework with minimal supervision.
Demonstrated commitment to social justice principles especially in relation to marginalised or disadvantaged groups and individuals.
Demonstrated high level skills in interpersonal, negotiation, advocacy and written communication including the ability to convey complex legal information in a manner appropriate to the client group.
Demonstrated ability to undertake community legal education, training and production of education materials including designing and conducting community legal education.
Willingness to work effectively as part of a team in the planning, development and delivery of a holistic service.Ability to work to work independently with minimal.
Demonstrated ability in the use of current computer technology.
Current C Class Driver's Licence and ability to travel regionally to support outreach locations and undertake community development.
