About The Organisation

AMSANT is the peak body for Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services in the Northern Territory and advocates for equity in health, focusing on supporting the provision of high quality comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal communities.

- Salary packaging up to $15,899.94 pa.

Work hours: Full-Time, Monday-Friday 08:00am - 04:30pm

Role Description:

The position will manage the Policy, Research & Advocacy team to play a leading role in coordinating and overseeing AMSANT's strategic policy, research, and advocacy priorities. This role will have a strong focus in fostering strong stakeholder relationships for AMSANT, in support of the Aboriginal community-controlled health services (ACCHSs) sector in the NT. The strategic policy and advocacy function of the role will work directly to the AMSANT CEO.

Responsibilities:

- Provide policy, research, and advocacy leadership in support of the CEO, Board and Members and represent AMSANT on external policy and research working groups and committees.
- Provide oversight of health research activities as directed by the AMSANT Board and CEO.
- Manage the secretariat support to the Board, Research Subcommittee, General Members meetings and the NT Aboriginal Health Forum (NTAHF), including in the preparation of agendas, papers, strategic and business plans, and monitoring the implementation of actions by appropriate parties.
- Under the direction of the CEO, lead the strategic direction for external communications, including correspondence, speeches, media releases and social media.
- Lead and manage a team, providing direction and oversight in the research and production of high [1] quality reports, submissions, and other policy documents.
- Build and maintain relationships with AMSANT member services and external partners and stakeholders to enhance policy, research, and advocacy outcomes for AMSANT and our sector.
- Contribute as a member of the AMSANT Senior Management Team (SMT) to overseeing strategic p lanning, organisational policies, and WH&S practice.

Selection Requirements (Qualifications & Attributes)

ESSENTIAL

- Relevant tertiary qualification and extensive experience in health or social policy, planning, research and/or governance.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in comprehensive primary health care including the social and cultural determinants of health.
- Demonstrated high level experience in strategic policy development and implementation in a health-related sector and a sound understanding of government policy processes.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in health research and/or understanding of Aboriginal health research processes and structures relevant to the Northern Territory.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic relationships internally and with government and other external stakeholders.
- Strong secretariat management skills and experience in providing strategic support to a CEO and Board.
- High level knowledge and experience in project management, including planning, development, analysis and evaluation.
- High level oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to consult, collaborate and negotiate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated self-management skills in dealing with multiple projects and deadlines with a capacity to prioritise and manage timelines and workloads.
- Sound knowledge of current and emerging health issues and their relationship with key strategic directions of the sector and government policy priorities.
- Ability to interact effectively with Indigenous people and people from diverse backgrounds.

DESIRABLE

- Previous experience working in the Aboriginal community-controlled sector.

- Applicants must be able and willing to undertake travel throughout the NT and Interstate (sometimes as a light aircraft passenger) and possess a C class Driver's Licence.
