Primary objective The assistant principal provides high quality educational leadership to improve the educational outcomes of students, maintains the quality of teaching and learning programs, and nurture positive relationships between students, teachers, the community and stakeholders. Context statement Tennant Creek High School is situated in Tennant Creek and provides education to middle years and senior secondary students. Tennant Creek High School has an approximate enrolment of 250 students; 84% of whom are Indigenous and 75% of whom are English as an Additional Language/Dialect speakers. It operates across the spectrum of the Australian curriculum, delivering middle and senior years’ education. The assistant principal works alongside the principal and has primary oversight of a number of key administrative areas such as whole school professional learning, NTCET completion, NT School of Distance Education, reporting and Vocational Education and Training. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Work with the principal and leadership team, to ensure consistent and effective operation of the school and a shared strategic vision focused on providing quality learning outcomes for students with diverse backgrounds and needs. 2. Provide whole school leadership of curriculum, assessment, moderation and reporting in line with the school’s strategic direction. 3. Maintain high standards of pastoral care, behaviour management and wellbeing support. 4. Communicate with staff, students, parents/carers and other stakeholders about student wellbeing and academic progress and achievement. 5. Manage and coordinate school systems and resources to ensure education services are consistent with best practice and school and departmental policies. This includes timetabling, staffing, maintenance of student records and leadership in professional development of staff. 6. Undertake teaching responsibilities and other duties as required. Selection criteria Essential 1. Registration with the NT Teacher Registration Board, a current Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) and significant and successful recent teaching experience in a school context. 2. Excellent knowledge and comprehensive experience of middle and senior school curriculum (including NT Certificate of Education and Training requirements), school administration and human resource management practices. 3. Experience in educational leadership, with a proven record of successfully initiating, managing and responding to change to achieve positive outcomes for the school community. 4. High level interpersonal, oral and written communication, team building, conflict resolution and organisational skills.
