The Role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end fabrication, modification, and repair of a wide range of orthotic appliances. You will work closely with our clinical Orthotists to translate prescriptions into high-performance devices, ensuring every product meets our rigorous quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Fabrication & Service
* Provide comprehensive technical services for our orthotic clientele, including the manufacture of custom orthoses.
* Liaise and communicate effectively with Orthotists to establish and clarify technical requirements for complex prescriptions.
* Perform precise technical procedures including positive model rectification, thermoforming, leatherwork, and finishing.
* Maintain and audit manufacturing guidelines to ensure all technical personnel meet Geelong Orthotics’ standards.
Production Coordination
* Monitor and coordinate the manufacturing workflow to ensure devices are delivered within clinical timelines.
* Maintain accurate documentation for the manufacturing process and quality assurance programs.
* Manage inventory by initiating the ordering of stock and non-stock items required for the workshop.
* Record and analyse any structural failures to improve long-term device durability.
Quality & Safety
* Actively participate in quality control assurance programs for all technical jobs.
* Maintain a safe and clean workshop environment, adhering to all OH&S protocols.
* Wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and seek clarification on safety hazards where necessary.
* Represent technical personnel in OH&S reviews and report any unsafe conditions promptly.
Professional Development
* Participate in internal and external education programs to stay current with orthotic materials and technology.
* Assist in the supervision and technical training of Orthotic students on clinical placement.
Qualifications & Skills
* Experience: Proven experience as a Technician within an orthotic laboratory or similar manufacturing environment.
* Technical Skills: Proficiency with workshop machinery (e.g., routers, grinders, vacuum forming units) and hand tools.
* Material Knowledge: Strong understanding of various materials including thermoplastics, foams, carbons, and leathers.
* Attention to Detail: Ability to interpret clinical prescriptions and manufacture devices to exact specifications.
* Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary health team.
