Talent Manager (Legal Recruitment & Development)
BlackBay Lawyers is one of Australia's fastest-growing litigation, crisis and reputation management firms, built for ambitious lawyers who want to accelerate their careers. Since 2022, we've represented ASX-listed companies, high-growth founders, and public figures in disputes where both revenue and reputation are on the line.
We're now seeking a Talent Manager (Legal Recruitment & Development) – a driven and strategic recruiter with a deep understanding of the legal industry, to help shape the next phase of our growth story. This role is ideal for someone from a legal recruitment or in-house talent background who wants to build, own, and grow a talent function from the ground up.
The Opportunity
You'll work directly with Partners and firm leadership to design and execute BlackBay's recruitment strategy, from mid-level lateral hires to graduate intakes. This is a rare opportunity to step into a high-growth environment and make your mark as the architect of our future team.
Core Responsibilities
* Build and maintain a live network of talented lawyers across litigation, employment, and defamation.
* Run direct sourcing campaigns through LinkedIn Recruiter, alumni groups, and targeted outreach.
* Develop long‑term relationships with recruiters, universities, and professional associations.
* Track and nurture promising candidates even before roles open.
2. Recruitment Process
* Manage end‑to‑end recruitment, advertising, screening, interviews, and offers.
* Partner with practice heads to define role requirements and hiring priorities.
* Deliver an exceptional candidate experience from first contact to onboarding.
* Maintain recruitment metrics and weekly hiring pipeline reports.
3. Employer Branding
* Work with Marketing to promote BlackBay's brand as the destination for ambitious litigators.
* Curate content for the Careers page and LinkedIn, spotlighting team achievements, firm culture, and growth stories.
* Represent BlackBay at networking and university events to strengthen visibility in the market.
4. Talent Development
* Support the rollout of "The BlackBay Track" – our professional development and retention program.
* Coordinate onboarding, mentoring, and growth plans for new hires.
* Identify opportunities for internal promotions and lateral mobility.
What Makes This Role Unique
* Build from scratch: Establish the systems, relationships, and playbooks that will help scale BlackBay.
* Direct access to leadership: Work alongside Partners and the Director to shape workforce strategy.
* Career runway: As the firm grows, this role will evolve into a Head of Talent or People & Culture Lead position.
* Culture‑first firm: You'll help define and protect the values that drive our performance and reputation.
Skills & Experience
* 2–5 years' experience in legal recruitment (agency or in‑house), or professional services talent acquisition.
* Demonstrated success sourcing and placing lawyers at the mid‑senior level.
* Exceptional communication and relationship‑building skills.
* Organised, proactive, and commercially minded, you think about recruitment as a growth lever.
* Strong understanding of legal markets, candidate motivations, and employer branding.
* Bonus: experience in people development, onboarding, or HR operations.
