**DEPARTMENT**
Alfred Mental and Addiction Health is responsible for the operation of services which focus on people with a severe mental illness residing in the Inner South Eastern area of Melbourne.
**POSITION**
An exciting opportunity for a peer worker to provide support to clients who access the residential rehabilitation programs of Alfred Mental and Addiction Health. Alma Road Community Care Unit (ARCC) is provides medium to long term care in and is based in St Kilda. Based at ARCC the role provides a unique peer led lived experience, supporting recovery, planning and coping strategies that engage consumers in opportunities for meaningful community living. The incumbent will provide input to the group program as well as 1:1 support.
**QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE**
**Essential**
- Personal experience of having mental health challenges and the ability to use own experience to inspire hope and belief in recovery
- Experience in providing consumer Peer Support in a formal capacity
- Be able to articulate the guiding principles, values and ethics of peer support work
- Demonstrated effective negotiation skills, time management, and written and verbal communication skills within a team environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to consumer led recovery
- A current Driver's Licence is required to undertake this role.
- A Police Check is required to undertake this role.
- A Current Working with Children check is required to undertake this role.
- IPS training
**Desirable**
- Commitment to the philosophy of recovery-oriented practice for people with substantial and prolonged mental illness.
- A history of ongoing professional development.
- Certificate IV in Peer Work
- Cert IV in Mental Health
