Consultant Clinical Oncologist – Breast

Applications are invited for the above post of Consultant Clinical Oncologist with an interest in Breast cancers, based at the Sussex Cancer Centre at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton but with sessions throughout the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
The "Sussex Cancer Centre Oncology Service" is a team of oncologists employed through University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust working across the county, providing clinical and medical oncology care to the population of Sussex.
This includes provision of non-surgical cancer treatments across five hospital locations – Brighton, Haywards Heath, Worthing, Hastings, Eastbourne – and acute service support in Chichester.
The new appointee will work alongside colleagues in the Urology site reference groups comprising a multi-professional team including clinical oncologists, medical oncologists, pharmacists, clinical nurse specialists and cancer support workers.
The appointee will have an on‑call commitment at the Royal Sussex County Hospital on a >1:9 rota (currently 1:17).
Main Duties of the Job
The appointee will join the team of 30 Clinical/Medical consultant oncologists who work across Sussex (Worthing, Brighton, Haywards Heath, Eastbourne and Hastings) in delivering a comprehensive oncology service for patients from across the Trust.
* Regular outpatient clinics
* MDM attendance
* SACT prescribing and oversight
* Radiotherapy planning
* Clinical supervision of non-medical staff
* Clinical governance and service development
* Ward reviews and on-call duties
* Active role in education for trainees at all grades
* Teaching and supervision of medical students, junior medical staff and AHP/nurses
* Take part in audit and support junior team members in their audit projects
Job Responsibilities
* Attend mandatory training updates as required.

Person Specification
Experience & Qualifications
* Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview.
* If you trained in the UK, you must also have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Oncology or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date.
* If you trained outside the UK, you must provide evidence that your qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT. (Equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
Clinical Skills & Experience
* Evidence of training in broad spectrum of clinical oncology tumour sites.
* Interest and training suitable for a CNS cancer clinical oncology post.
Knowledge
* Breadth of experience in and outside specialty.
Organisation Planning
* Experience and ability to work in multi‑professional teams.
* Understanding of NHS / clinical governance / resource constraints.
* Evidence of managerial skills: achievements / courses attended.
Teaching Skills
