As a Geotechnical Engineer you will play a key role in the assessment and interpretation of geological and geotechnical conditions to support civil infrastructure, mining, and construction projects across Western Australia. Working within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment, you will be responsible for conducting field investigations, analysing geological data, preparing technical reports, and providing geotechnical input during the planning, design, and construction phases of projects.
You will apply your strong understanding of local geological conditions, rock and soil mechanics, and site investigation techniques to assess ground risks and ensure safe, cost-effective engineering solutions. Your role will involve close collaboration with the Geotechnical, Civil and Structural group as well as clients, outside consultants and subs-consultants. This role will often be requiring site travel and working away from home across regional and remote project areas.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Planning and executing geotechnical site investigations, including drilling supervision, logging, sampling, and in-situ testing.
* Interpreting geological data to assess ground conditions and geohazards relevant to project design and construction.
* Preparing clear, concise geotechnical and geological reports in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
* Supporting foundation design, slope stability assessments, earthworks, and construction material evaluations.
* Ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations during all site and office-based activities.
* Communicating findings and technical advice effectively to clients and project teams.
KEY DELIVERIES
Supervision and Management
* Prepare job proposals, including identification of resources to meet agreed programmes budgets and performance levels, for review and signing by the Job Manager.
* Execute projects utilising the WML Consultants Integrated Management System (IMS), and in special cases an IMS specified by the Client.
* Form part of project teams.
* Manages and mentors junior staff
Design
* Design and Undertake field investigations.
* Directing and supervising others undertaking field investigations
* Operating auger drilling machinery and field investigation tools including DCP's and hand augers.
* Prepare engineering designs for various engineering projects in accordance with the relevant Australian and Western Australian standards and codes of practice.
* Prepare engineering reports.
* Consult approving authorities and agencies and complies with mandatory requirements.
* Carry out design checks on own work and the work of others.
* Undertake ongoing training and development to expand skills and knowledge.
* Undertake to research and include innovation in design solutions where appropriate.
Project Management
Manage the scoping, project development, design, delivery, and review of assigned projects.
Contribute to the development, maintenance and improvement of project management processes and systems within the Company.
Contract Management
* Prepare contract documentation and manages the contract tendering process.
* Manage contracts and contractors to ensure that contracts are completed to approved scope, budget, time and quality.
* Review and report on the performance of both contracts and contractors.
* Undertake contract management duties as appointed.
* Contribute to the development, maintenance and improvement of contract management processes and systems within the Company.
SELECTION CRITERIA
* Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geology or Engineering Geology.
* 5+ years of relevant professional experience in the field of engineering Geology associated with infrastructure projects.
* Post Grad, Masters or PhD in a relevant Geotechnical field (Highly Desirable).
* Chartered Status or be working towards.
* Excellent soil mechanics knowledge essential.
* Experience in Geotechnical Investigation and Geotechnical design.
* Good communication skills.
* Strong analysis and reporting skills.
