We are seeking a proactive and experienced Work Health and Safety (WHS) Manager to lead our safety initiatives across the College. This role is integral to maintaining a strong safety record, ensuring compliance, and fostering a culture of safety excellence. You will manage a dedicated team of two full-time Safety Officers, overseeing high-risk areas, and work collaboratively with key stakeholders to drive continuous safety improvements. Your role involves
- Providing strategic WHS leadership and management oversight across the College, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards.
- Leading the implementation of safety requirements for staff, students, facilities, and equipment, including SOPs, risk and hazard management, incident reporting, and audits.
- Developing and overseeing comprehensive training and induction programs for all College facilities to ensure compliance and safety best practices.
- Establishing and managing a robust review and audit program, ensuring corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner.
- Leading and managing the College WHS team, fostering a positive and proactive safety culture and ensuring high-quality WHS support for all teaching and research activities.
- Engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, including the College Executive, technical staff, and university-wide safety teams, to ensure WHS initiatives are aligned with broader strategic goals.
This continuing position is full time at a HEW 7 Higher Education Level located at Callaghan Campus.

- A degree with at least four years subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise in technical or administrative fields; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Demonstrated extensive knowledge of NSW Work Health and Safety Legislation and experience in leading the implementation and review of these requirements within a complex operating environment.
- Demonstrated leadership and management capability including the ability to lead and inspire a team of technical and professional staff to deliver exceptional performance and outcomes.
- Advanced knowledge of best practice systems for effectively managing health and safety of users including demonstrated ability to actively engage staff and students.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills including the capacity to build relationships and an interdisciplinary way of working.
- Demonstrated knowledge of workplace obligations to, and experience in leading and cultivating workplace practices and behaviours that promote, support and maintain a safe, healthy, equitable, diverse and respectful workplace; including responding appropriately to adverse accidents, incidents, behaviours, issues, reports and the like.
