The opportunity As a Mobility Equipment Hire Service (MEHS) volunteer, you will be the first point of contact for clients seeking mobility equipment. You’ll bring excellent communication skills and an understanding and empathy for people from diverse backgrounds. The volunteer will be responsible for responding to enquiries, identifying and providing customers with the most appropriate short term hire mobility aids, maintaining and carrying out equipment, cleaning and servicing requirements as well as completing hire and return procedures. The MEHS Volunteer is the first contact point for MEHS clients and is responsible the following duties: Assist customers to identify the most appropriate mobility aid in conjunction with their referral Provide customers with guidelines for the correct use of the mobility aid/s Communicate with clients on a one-to-one basis, respecting the clients’ right to confidentiality Positively contribute to workplace health and safety practices including an understanding of maintenance and carrying out cleaning requirements (health permitting) Ensure open, professional, positive, respectful and constructive style of communication in all interactions Complete the associated paperwork and process payments Participate in orientation and training sessions Assist the Rockhampton Branch President with administrative duties associated with Branch activities The impact As a volunteer, you will ensure people have access to the equipment needed for their recovery, helping them to maintain their independence and alleviating some of the pressures they face while managing their health. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the world’s largest humanitarian network.
