Associate Director, Government Affairs & Relations

High Profile Corporate Commonwealth Entity

Permanent role open to Australian citizens ideally in Canberra

This is a career-defining opportunity to join a newly established national institution that is driving innovation and industrial transformation across Australia. With a mandate to invest in strategic growth areas, the organisation is deeply embedded in the government landscape and works across multiple ministerial portfolios, sovereign investment vehicles, and industry partners - making this a high-impact, highly visible role.

As Associate Director, Government Affairs & Relations, you will report to the Director of Government Relations and play a pivotal role in supporting the organisation's engagement with government, parliament, and political stakeholders. This includes preparing responses to parliamentary questions on notice, Senate Estimates, and ministerial briefings, as well as contributing to broader government relations strategy and stakeholder engagement initiatives.

* Work across multiple ministerial portfolios and high-profile government campaigns
* Build relationships with senior stakeholders across government, industry, and investment
* Contribute to bipartisan engagement and strategic outreach
* Be part of a collaborative, non-hierarchical team culture

Key Responsibilities

* Support government-facing activities including briefings, requests for information, and parliamentary processes
* Prepare high-quality written materials including responses to Questions on Notice, Senate Estimates, and ministerial briefings
* Build and maintain relationships with ministerial offices, departments, and other political stakeholders
* Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and advise internal stakeholders
* Contribute to strategic government relations planning and bipartisan engagement
* Assist with stakeholder events, including site tours and parliamentary functions
* Assist in managing sensitive issues or public policy disputes involving government stakeholders, supporting the coordination of FOI responses and document requests
* Work with communications teams to develop messaging and content that supports government engagement
* Maintain a forward schedule of planned government engagements and ensure proactive coordination
* Contribute written content for newsletters, social media, or website as needed

About You

You are a senior government relations professional with experience navigating complex, high-impact subject matter. You may come from a policy, communications, or public affairs background and are comfortable working in ambiguity, identifying issues early, and responding with clarity and precision.

You Bring

* Proven experience in government relations, public affairs, or policy
* Familiarity with parliamentary processes including Senate Estimates and Questions on Notice
* Background in policy analysis or legislative affairs, with experience monitoring and analysing legislative and regulatory developments
* Experience advocating for policies and regulations that align with organisational objectives
* Experience working across multiple stakeholders and portfolios
* Strong writing and communication skills
* A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with no ego
* Australian citizenship
* Experience working with technically complex subject matter — whether in government, investment, finance, trade, or industry development. Exposure to financial services or investment environments is beneficial but not essential

This permanent role is ideal for someone based in Canberra, though candidates in Sydney or Melbourne will also be considered. You'll be joining a team that values curiosity, collaboration, and action — and where individuals are empowered to contribute meaningfully to national outcomes.
