Position Overview:
We are seeking dedicated Disability Support Workers to provide high-intensity care for clients with complex behavioral and mental health needs in supported living environments.
This role involves working with individuals requiring 24/7 support, including those with Down syndrome and severe intellectual disability, to assist with daily living, functional independence, hospital discharge, and community participation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Deliver high-level physical and prompting assistance with daily living tasks (e.g., showering, toileting, dressing, grooming, medication management).
* Provide 24/7 supervision and active support, including redirection for behaviors such as wandering, impulsivity, or agitation.
* Assist with community access, meal preparation, and personal safety using assistive technology (e.g., bed alarms, shower chairs).
* Monitor and manage risks (e.g., falls, pressure areas, self-harm) and implement Positive Behavior Support (PBS) strategies.
* Support clients during overnight shifts, responding to waking, confusion, or distress.
* Collaborate with families, guardians, and allied health professionals to follow NDIS plans.
Essential Requirements:
* Certificate III/IV in Individual Support, Disability, or Mental Health, with 1-2 years' experience with high-needs clients.
* Current NDIS Worker Screening Check, First Aid/CPR, and Working with Vulnerable People clearance.
* Strong communication skills, including calm de-escalation and ability to follow simple instructions.
* Physical capacity for hands-on care and flexibility for varied shifts (days, nights, weekends).
* Reliable transport and willingness to travel across Goolwa, Victor Harbor, and surrounds.
Desirable Skills:
* Assist with personal care, grooming, dressing, and hygiene.
* Support mobility, transfers, and use of assistive devices safely.
* Assist with meal preparation and adherence to dietary requirements.
* Manage continence needs, including regular pad checks and changes.
* Encourage participation in community activities and social routines.
* Attend appointments with allied health providers and support plan implementation..
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistent and safe care.
* Follow all health, safety, and infection control protocols.
