Community Living Supports for Refugees (CLS-R) is a unique program that aims toprovide trauma-informed, recovery focused and culturally appropriatepsychosocial supports to refugees and asylum seekers who are experiencingpsychological distress, mental ill health and impaired functioning.
Key responsibilities
Providedirect practical support to consumers to improve and maintain their independentliving skills. This includes assistance in budgeting skills, social activities,shopping and other areas.
Develop,implement, and review person-centred, individualised support plans forconsumers that are holistic, culturally appropriate and trauma informed.
Support consumers to identify their wellbeing needs and aspirations incollaboration with the consumer’s family, carers and other key sources ofsupport.
Work closely with New Horizons and NSW Health clinicians in order to delivercomprehensive service to consumers.
Facilitate consumer access to education, vocational training and employmentopportunities.
Support consumers to participate in social and recreational activitiesincluding assisting clients to develop/strengthen their relationship with theiridentified community.
Engage in consumer advocacy and/or assist consumers to develop self-advocacyskills and strategies.
Keeping consumer records up to date on a daily basis using online systems
Essential Criteria
Qualifications in Mental Health, Social Work, Social Welfare or other relevantsocial science or behavioural disciplines, or significant relevant experience.
Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting refugees and asylum seekers andthe effects of trauma on individuals, young people, families, and communities.
Knowledge of the cultures and health needs of refugee communities.
Demonstrated knowledge and an ability to engage with the NSW Health and SocialServices sector.
Technical literacy with proven ability to use Microsoft Office and systems forreporting.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary andmulticultural team.
Valid NSW Drivers C class licence, with ability to drive vehicles in licenceclass, including large cars and vans.
Current Police Check (not older than 3 months, NSW WWCC and NDIS WC to meet NewHorizons employment criteria prior to commencing with us.
