Work & Training are seeking a passionate educator for the role of part time Literacy Educator/Tutor for 3 - 4 days a week within our Children and Schooling Program. The salary is negotiable.
About the position
The role of Literacy Educator/Tutor is to support the learning needs of Aboriginal children including language, literacy, numeracy, digital & employability skills.
The role will involve working directly with children and their parents/carers and with a range of stakeholders including schools, Aboriginal organisations and other professional services to support children's learning, engagement in school and pathways into employment.
The Literacy Education/Tutor will provide support on a one-to-one basis in a range of different locations.
Work & training are seeking candidates that have tertiary qualifications in education or a related field. Candidates will need to demonstrate/ or show that they have experience and ability to:
- identify individual learning needs of children particularly in the areas of reading and writing
- develop individualised learning programs to support confidence and skills
- work closely with parents & carers to support children with their learning goals
- provide support for children that have learning difficulties or a trauma background
It is an essential requirement that the successful incumbent will have:
- Drivers Licence and the ability to travel to different locations in and around Hobart
- A current Working with Vulnerable People Registration
- agree to undergo a National Police Check
- the ability to provide support after school hours
- excellent communication skills
Selection Criteria
1) Relevant Occupational Check
It is a requirement of the position to undertake an Australian National Police check prior to appointment and hold a valid WWVP Registration
2) Education & Accreditation
Hold a tertiary qualification in a relevant field of expertise e.g. Education, Speech Pathology, Social Work etc.
3) Relevant Experience
Relevant experience may include:
· Experience supporting the learning needs of children who have poor previous school experience, difficulties with learning and/or a trauma background
· Experience in the delivery of programs to support the development of literacy skills in children
· Education, tutoring or learning support experience
4) Skills/Competencies
· Well-developed written and oral communication skills and ability to cater to a diverse range of people and organisations
· High level of interpersonal skills
· Excellent problem solving skills
· Well-developed skills in Microsoft office suite programs
· Ability to work with minimal supervision as well as a member of a team
· Good time management and prioritisation skills
