Junior Site Construction Engineer


Location: Various construction sites across Wollongong Region, NSW, Australia
Employment Type: Full-time
Industry: Construction


Position Overview:


The Junior Site Construction Engineer supports senior engineers and project managers in overseeing and managing construction activities. This entry-level role involves working on-site to ensure construction projects are executed in accordance with engineering designs, safety regulations, and quality standards. The position offers a hands-on learning opportunity, providing exposure to all aspects of construction engineering, including project coordination, safety management, and quality control.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Project Support and Coordination:
o Assist senior engineers and site managers in daily project activities.
o Review engineering plans, drawings, and specifications to understand the project scope.
o Monitor progress on-site and ensure adherence to project timelines and construction standards.
2. Site Supervision:
o Conduct on-site inspections to ensure work is being completed according to designs and specifications.
o Support in managing subcontractors and labor teams, ensuring tasks are carried out as per instructions.
o Report any site issues, delays, or safety concerns to the project engineer or site manager.
3. Health and Safety:
o Assist in implementing and enforcing safety protocols according to Australian Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards.
o Ensure that all site activities comply with safety regulations, and report any safety incidents or hazards.
o Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
4. Quality Assurance:
o Conduct quality control checks, ensuring that materials and workmanship meet the required standards.
o Document and report any quality issues to the senior engineer or project manager.
o Assist with troubleshooting and resolving construction challenges as they arise.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain accurate and up-to-date site records, including daily logs, progress reports, and safety reports.
o Assist in preparing reports for project managers and clients, providing updates on project status and any issues encountered.
o Ensure all documentation is in line with company policies and regulatory requirements.
6. Collaboration:
o Work closely with senior engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders to ensure smooth coordination of activities.
o Assist in communication between on-site teams and the office-based design and project teams.
7. Materials and Resource Management:
o Assist in managing and coordinating the delivery of materials and equipment on-site.
o Monitor stock levels and ensure materials are available to meet project requirements.


Key Skills and Attributes:

* Technical Understanding: Basic knowledge of construction engineering principles, methods, and materials.
* Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately follow plans and instructions, ensuring that project specifications are met.
* Problem Solving: Capable of identifying potential issues on-site and seeking guidance to resolve them effectively.
* Teamwork: Ability to work well in a team environment and support senior engineers and site managers.
* Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders.
* Time Management: Ability to manage time effectively, ensuring tasks are completed within set deadlines.


Qualifications and Experience:

* Education: Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
* Experience: 0-2 years of relevant work experience in the construction industry, including internships or placements (preferred but not mandatory).
* Certifications:
o Construction Induction (White Card) mandatory for working on Australian construction sites.
o Familiarity with WHS (Work Health and Safety) guidelines is highly advantageous.
* Technical Skills: Basic proficiency in construction management software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, or similar) and Microsoft Office suite.
* Drivers License: A valid Australian drivers license is essential, as travel between sites may be required.


Work Environment:

* Physical Requirements: The role requires spending time outdoors on construction sites, with exposure to various weather conditions and physical demands.
* Travel: Travel to different construction sites may be required, depending on the location of projects.
