ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, the Engineer OT Infrastructure & Connectivity will be an integral member of our Process, Control and Automation (PCA) team at Appin Mine.
Your expertise in OT infrastructure and connectivity will drive performance, safety and sustainability. Being a driver of change, you will be responsible for designing, upgrading and maintaining the site Operational Technology (OT) networks. You will interface with site operational teams, engineers, third parties and our enterprise Digital Technology team to ensure secure, reliable connectivity across industrial control systems and automation networks.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Design, configure, deploy and maintain OT network infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, and wireless systems, for mine sites and remote operations (CITRIX, VDI, etc).
- Implement network segmentation (VRF, VLAN, etc.) and access control (ACL) between IT and OT environments.
- Monitor and troubleshoot network performance and connectivity issues across several mine sites
- Conduct preventive maintenance, firmware upgrades, and patch management for network devices, including industrial-grade Ethernet switches and wireless networks.
- Plan and collaborate with IT, OT, automation, and mining operations teams on new site deployments or network upgrades.
- Assist in planning network expansions, technology refreshes, and IT/OT convergence initiatives.
- Maintain detailed network documentation, diagrams, and configuration standards.
- Liaise with vendors, integrators, and contractors for technical support and solutions delivery.
ABOUT YOU
You're a collaborative and solutions-focused network specialist who thrives in complex environments. You’re driven to improve systems and collaborate with others while keeping safety and performance front of mind.
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- TCP/IP, routing, switching (Layer 2/3), VRF, VLANs, VPNs, and network security principles.
- SCADA or industrial control networks in mining environments.
- Cisco IOS, industrial Ethernet devices (Moxa, Stratix, etc.), and firewall technologies.
- VOIP (IP phones) and PBX phone system.
- Wireless network deployment, radio communications and fibre optics.
- IP cameras in underground or remote mining environments.
Qualifications, skills, and competencies:
- Relevant Engineering degree (or equivalent) & 5+ years experience in network engineering, ideally including mining environments.
- Rockwell PLCs and Citect SCADA.
- Strong documentation, analysis & planning skills.
