You'll play a key part in guiding residents, developers, and partner agencies with expert environmental health advice while helping deliver Council's vital regulatory functions that protect community wellbeing.

About The Role

* Conduct environmental health assessments for proposed developments, preparing high‑quality reports and providing policy advice to Council staff, consultants, proponents and the community.
* Undertake routine environmental health inspections, investigate complaints and report on potential breaches of food safety, environmental and public health legislation, using strong negotiation and communication skills.
* Support the Environmental Health Team in delivering key projects and programs that advance the Environmental Health Strategy, including community education initiatives.
* Apply sound knowledge of environmental health legislation and concepts relating to water, noise, air pollution and public health, maintaining specialist expertise where required.
* Analyse environmental reports for compliance with standards and legislation, utilise Council's information systems (ECM and Ci) for document and complaint management, and provide advice as part of the unit's duty roster while using strong problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills.

* A maximum term contract, 12 months parental leave, effective from February 2026, with the possibility of extension or permanency subject to performance, funding and operational need.
* An attractive base salary ranging from $84,316 per annum with competency‑based increments up to $99,874 per annum, plus 12% super.

We Are Seeking

* A candidate eligible for membership with Environmental Health Australia, with sound knowledge of environmental and public health matters safety, air/noise/water pollution, contaminated land, on‑site sewage management, acid sulfate soils, noise assessment and water quality monitoring.
* A strong understanding of inspection principles and practices, and the ability to apply environmental and public health legislation within a local government context.
* Demonstrated high‑level written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare clear reports and engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.
* Proven conflict‑resolution ability and well‑developed problem‑solving skills to effectively manage challenging environmental and public health matters.
* Demonstrated proficiency in digital and information management systems, including GIS and other software used to support environmental health functions.

Where it's located: This position is based in Murwillumbah, and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
