About the opportunity
There is currently one (1) fixed‐term, full‐time position (until 30 June 2027) with the possibility of extension and/or permanency available for immediate filling.
The Farming System Innovation Branch is seeking a passionate, self‐motivated, early‐career Research Scientist to join our team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with an experienced team to maintain and develop systems with bioeconomic models, while identifying and communicating innovative, sustainable farming systems. In this role, you will contribute to meaningful, positive change by supporting adaptations to evolving climate and economic conditions within Western Australia's agricultural sector.
Key qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Science, Science, or an approved equivalent.
* Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience of the agri‐food industry, sustainable production systems and principles of scientific research.
* The ability to build and enhance system applications, and statistical, biological, bioeconomic models that assist with real‐time decision making.
* Experience in geospatial and multi‐faced analyses involving climate, agricultural and environmental data.
* Experience in modern analytical methods for data mining, including machine learning.
* Experience in pest modelling, including simulation of pest population dynamics to inform risk assessment in agricultural systems.
* Previous experience using computer and statistical programming will be highly regarded (e.g. Python, R, Julia, MATLAB).

DPIRD is an Emergency Management Agency and all employees may be required to work or travel during, or outside of, normal business hours to assist with incidents and emergencies.
