Senior Veterinary Surgeon (Surgical Focus) – Wakefield | RCVS-Accredited Hospital | Up to £75,000 + Benefits
An established, purpose-built, RCVS-accredited veterinary hospital in Wakefield is seeking an experienced Senior Veterinary Surgeon with a surgical focus to join its highly skilled and progressive team. The Opportunity
This modern veterinary hospital is home to a team of 18 vets, including multiple certificate holders, and features state‐of‐the‐art facilities, including an on‐site CT scanner. The successful candidate will work closely with the Surgical Director, delivering both advanced and routine surgical procedures while contributing to the continued development of clinical standards and team capability. The role is primarily based at the hospital, with one operating day per week at a nearby sister branch.
Key Details
* Salary: £60,000 – £75,000 (pro rata), depending on experience, certification, and Advanced Practitioner status
* Job Type: Full-time or part-time, permanent
* Schedule: Fixed day off each week
* Out-of-Hours: No regular OOH commitments
* Weekend Rota: 1 in 4
Key Responsibilities
* Perform a wide range of surgical procedures, from routine to emergency interventions
* Undertake advanced surgeries such as TPLO and patella luxation (mentorship available if required)
* Manage surgical referrals within scope of expertise
* Monitor post‐operative recovery and provide ongoing patient care
* Collaborate with veterinary nurses and support staff to ensure efficient clinical operations
* Support and mentor junior colleagues, including involvement in the VetGDP programme
* Maintain accurate clinical records and treatment plans
* Engage in continuous professional development and stay up to date with advancements in veterinary medicine
Candidate Requirements
* MRCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon with proven surgical experience
* Postgraduate Certificate (PgC) in Surgery (or working towards) preferred
* Orthopaedic experience highly desirable
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong client relationships
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
