Lake Macquarie City Council provides unpaid work experience for students currently studying at secondary and tertiary levels. These placements offer an opportunity to learn from staff, gain new skills and on-the-job experience, and explore possible career opportunities.

About the Work Experience
The Council aims to provide meaningful work experience in an applicant's preferred area where possible. Due to high application volume, some applications may be declined. All applications are assessed based on placement timing, staff workloads, and mentor availability.
Applicants from support classes are welcomed.
Applying for Work Experience
If you are interested, please submit an application. Required items:
* Public liability coverage – a certificate of currency provided by your school, covering your entire placement.
* Student Placement Record – provided by your school.
* Selection of up to three areas of interest for work experience.
We can't process your application until we receive these items.
Essential Requirements
* Must be a current student at a high school or tertiary provider.
* Students must provide liability insurance coverage for the placement; a letter of currency is required.
* Applications must be submitted at least six weeks before the desired start date. Successful applicants will receive onboarding tasks that must be completed prior to the start date.
* All participants (students, volunteers, contractors, etc.) are subject to the Council's random alcohol and drug testing program.
* Identify the desired department to ensure the most meaningful experience match.
