Are you an experienced statutory planner looking for a meaningful short-term opportunity within a reputable local government authority? We are currently recruiting for a Senior Urban Planner (Band 6) to join the Town Planning team at Council on a casual assignment.
Your new role
In this role, you will be responsible for processing and assessing planning permit applications in line with the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and the Council's Planning Scheme. You will provide high-quality customer service to the community, including delivering planning advice over the phone and at the front counter. You will also assess complex applications, prepare submissions for VCAT, support committee meetings, and ensure all work is completed in accordance with Council policies and legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Process and assess planning permit applications under relevant legislation and the Council's Planning Scheme
* Provide planning advice and exceptional customer service to residents, developers, and internal stakeholders
* Undertake pre-application assessments and prepare VCAT submissions
* Liaise with statutory authorities, consultants, and internal teams
* Support mediation meetings and committee briefings
* Ensure compliance with Council policies and statutory planning requirements
What you will need to succeed
* Tertiary qualification in Town Planning
* Demonstrated experience in statutory planning within Victorian local government
* Strong knowledge of Victorian planning legislation
* Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills
* Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Assignment Details
* Start Date: Monday 26th January
* End Date: Friday 24th April
* Hours: Monday to Friday, 38 hours per week (no weekend work)
* Daily Hours: 8:30 AM - 5:15 PM
* Pay Rate: $54.36 per hour +Superannuation
