The role
Crown Perth are currently seeking an experienced and driven Head Technical Operator - Flys, to join our Theatre Entertainment Department on a full-time basis.
As the Theatre Head Technical Operator – Flys, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and infrastructure of the Theatre stage fly system. This role supports the Theatre Technical Manager in coordinating resources, leading the fly team, reviewing technical requirements for touring shows, and managing rostering. You will also perform fly and staging roles during shows, act as a senior point of contact for backstage staff, conduct training create documentation, and participate in recruitment.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise all technical aspects of Theatre backstage fly system operations
* Lead and develop the fly team, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment
* Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality Theatre events
* Maintain accurate records of technical operations, staff utilization, and equipment maintenance
* Assist in coordinating technical bump in/bump out of shows, services, personnel, and operations
* Be a senior point of contact for show critical escalations and or issues
* Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and procedures
* Contribute to continuous improvement in technical standards and team performance
About you
You'll bring the following:
* 5+ years senior technical staging experience (Fly) with an emphasis on Theatre Stage Productions.
* Staff supervision skills including recruitment and selection, induction, performance evaluation and discipline
* Broad industry experience
* Competency in venue technical roles
* Strong organisational, troubleshooting, and stakeholder communication skills
Additional Information
To be successful you will have:
* Relevant qualifications (WAAPA or equivalent industry experience) highly regarded
* Working at Heights certificate, and White Card.
* EWP License
* Forklift license (advantageous)
* Rigging qualifications (advantageous)
* Preparedness to work outside of normal work business hours
