About the role
As a Beekeeper at MT HUNEE', you will be responsible for the care and management of the company's beehives, ensuring the health and productivity of the bee colonies. This full-time position is based in Mareeba QLD 4880 and is a crucial role within our Agronomy & Farm Services division.
What you'll be doing
* Inspect and maintain beehives to monitor the health and population of bee colonies
* Harvest and process honey, wax, and other hive products
* Identify and treat any pests or diseases affecting the bee colonies
* Expand and split colonies to increase the number of hives as needed
* Ensure the proper storage and transportation of hive equipment and products
* Maintain accurate records of hive activities and production
* Assist in the implementation of sustainable beekeeping practices
* Collaborate with the farm team to integrate bee pollination into crop production
What we're looking for
* At least 2 years of experience as a beekeeper, with a deep understanding of bee biology and behaviour
* Strong practical skills in hive management, honey extraction, and disease/pest control
* Knowledge of beekeeping equipment, tools, and safety protocols
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with good problem-solving and decision-making skills
* Commitment to sustainable and ethical beekeeping practices
* Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping abilities
* Physical fitness to handle the demands of the role, including lifting and working in various weather conditions
