About the CentreThe Oorala Aboriginal Centre is a facility of nationally recognised excellence offering teaching,
learning and student-centred services and programs to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students at the University of New England. Our vision is to empower Indigenous people and their communities through academic excellence, personal growth, and cultural connection.
Our purpose is to unlock the potential of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to promote access, participation, and personal growth, while supporting the diversity of cultures to foster a strong sense of belonging and community. Furthermore, our purpose is to deliver the opportunity to share Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges through teaching and learning for all students at UNE.

The University of New England Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Strategy 2019-2024 provides a platform to improve employment outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The UNE Employment Strategy 2019-2023 will guide the development of action and approaches that support culturally aware workplaces and practices, improved employment opportunities, career development options, including academic career paths, for current and prospective Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and students.
Genuinely consulting and collaborating with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities where UNE conducts its business is an integral part of UNE. Adopting a strengths-based approach by consulting with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the design, delivery and evaluation of strategies that build on and enhance the capacity of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and further solidify our working relationships with them.
